Many computer-knowledgable people (including I) agree that Mac's are superior machines in lots of ways. All blockbuster movies, media graphics, video games, and so much more are created on Mac's. I would say the main reasons why most designers/graphic artists use Macs is ten years ago the applications on the Macintosh platform were better than the ones designed for Windows.

These people got older and didn't want to switch to a Windows-based machine. These people rose to higher positions in companies and taught a new generation of designers. These people taught them to use Macs for no reason other than "that's the way it always has been".

These days the Windows-versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and the like are as good as -- if not superior in certain aspects -- their Macintosh counterparts.

It's why some people are still on AOL. It's why some people will never move away from the small town they were born in. It's why almost all designers use Macintoshes. It's complacency.

Ask a graphic artist why they use Macs and I'd bet nine out of ten times they'll reply either:

1) I don't know how to use or I don't feel comfortable with Windows,
2) I've always used Macs, or
3) Good graphic designers always use Macs.

One last note:

Over the last year, the percentage of people connected to the web that use Macs has surged from 3.0% to 3.7%.
