There are some that view those things as corrupting to the family (such as the popular Focus on The Family group here in Colorado Springs), so they have churches that adhere to those "little things".

She has told me that if the Catholic way was the only way, she'd have given up her faith decades ago. (Not meant to be a put-down on Catholics--my mother just was unhappy during her strict Catholic upbringing.)

I was a Catholic and I did give up my religion. I think they are much too strict and boring. Not that that's why I gave it up, although subconsciously it might be, but it's horribly dull. I went to Catholic masses for years and I can count on my two hands, maybe even on one, the number of times I had any fun. I went to a Protestant church though and it was actually kind of interesting. I was shocked that they weren't all stiff, boring and dull like the Catholic masses I was raised with. However, I imagine there are stricter churches which I would dislike even more.

I'm still sort of an agnostic/deist/atheist/ weird religious sort of person, but I think that the difference in Christianity is a good thing. If everything was as boring as Catholicism, it would have died out sooner I suppose. And if everything was as exciting as some of the religions, no one would respect them I guess. Plus, on why there should be seperation, nobody can ever really think the exact same thing. There is always conflict. Big conflict just leads to bigger changes in the overall belief :) Anyway, that's what I think about it.
