I went to Catholic masses for years and I can count on my two hands, maybe even on one, the number of times I had any fun. I went to a Protestant church though and it was actually kind of interesting. I was shocked that they weren't all stiff, boring and dull like the Catholic masses I was raised with. However, I imagine there are stricter churches which I would dislike even more.

If everything was as boring as Catholicism, it would have died out sooner I suppose. And if everything was as exciting as some of the religions, no one would respect them I guess. Plus, on why there should be seperation, nobody can ever really think the exact same thing. There is always conflict. Big conflict just leads to bigger changes in the overall belief :) Anyway, that's what I think about it.

Woah, woah, woah. Hold on a minute. A few points:

1. People nowadays are jaded. TV, movies, the internet... people expect techno razzle dazzle. Mass doesn't, nor IMO, should it. Perhaps it wasn't as stuffy to people before they expected everything to come with sound effects.

2. Fun? Who said Mass was supposed to be fun? I've always viewed Mass as a renewal of my relationship with God... almost as a private thing. It's a communion with God, assisted by a priest... the rest of the congregation is just there to affirm you and support you. But it's still an individual thing. You get out of it what you put into it.

Do svidaniya,
Jannette ("Actually had fun yesterday, going to Mass away from home in North Carolina")
