I actually have a bit of a project going on my web site that includes my thoughts on recording dreams. Here's a bit of that:

In late 1999 I began writing my dreams down as part of the process of mastering lucid dreams*. Have you ever tried to be articulate on paper without waking yourself up completely? Or worse, tried to read your handwriting later on? After a few months of this tedium, I began relaying my nocturnal wanderings verbally into a hand-held tape recorder, and then transcribed those thoughts onto paper during more wakeful hours. While this latter method yields a more accurate recollection of a dream due to the relative speed I'm able to record it while waking conciousness is still hazy, it is interesting to note the number of times I use the phrases "for some reason" and "or something" (often several times per dream). Already the process of waking logic is trying to sort out the dream logic. Therefore even my most detailed recollections of the images set before me during the night are far from pure. What I am setting before you is a summary of these recollections, which means further dilution of the actual dream.

Sweet dreams,
Dags
