Yeah. If all you know is simple platitudes that you've been taught since you were little -- "War is wrong"; "violence never solved anything" -- and you can't seem to actually think for yourself, you end up like your friend, with no real grasp on what life is really like.

Try this. (Ok, don't really try it. Imagine it.) Go up to your friend. Punch her hard, right on the nose. Ask her if that solved anything. The answer is no, right? Now ask her if it makes her afraid you might do it again, if it makes her wonder why you did it at all, if it makes her want to change her routine so she doesn't come near you anymore, out of fear you might punch her again.

See if she gets the point.
