The CIA's involvement in Afghanistan was definitely a contributing factor to the winning of that war, which in turn was a contributing factor to the collapse of the USSR. The other may have been Star Wars, which didn't really exist much beyond paper, but looked technologically feasible to the USSR. A history teacher of mine once described Star Wars as Reagan's greatest bluff - the USSR was scared stiff that its nuclear deterrent was going to be useless, and they knew they didn't have the technology or resources to do anything about it. There's little doubt in my mind that the CIA capitalized on these fears in some way.
