The reason I count it as the best is the very strong naval feel running through it, from the Starfleet Uniforms of the day (very much like a naval dress uniform), to the submarine-hunt in the nebular. Moby Dick is only one of a dozen influences on that theme.

I think that starship combat must be more similar to naval than arial warfare, but the Star Trek directors seem to continually disagree with me on that one. Oh well.

Oh, and were Kahn Noonien Sing and Noonien Sung related? I think we ought to be told.
