Shy people should NOT be taking drugs to make them more outgoing. That's a horrid abuse of the drug, and for the drug company itself to suggest it is apalling. So when she said it was Paxil, about 40 red flags went up right there :) > > Huh. That's probably why I haven't heard the commercial: I don't listen to the radio very much; my family and I talk in the car. And I'm skeptical about commercials anyway, so I don't expect immediate change. I have gotten progressively better, but it's not like night and day. I agree, that is a dangerous commercial. All the information I've seen makes a distinction between shyness and social phobia/social anxiety disorder, and makes it clear(to me, anyway) that Paxil is for the latter, not the former. > > Nyperold
I HATE the Paxil ads. I saw it the first time, and said, very loudly to anyone who was in the room, "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING SHY! I'M SHY AND I QUITE LIKE THE WAY I AM! IF I WANT TO GET OVER MY SHYNESS I WILL GET OVER IT ON MY OWN ACCORD." Then I went on Paxil, saw the ad again, and after an initial, "Wait a minute. Isn't that what I'm taking?" I went right back to my initial complaint.
Incidentally, I don't think Paxil has helped me become less withdrawn or introspective or shy. Huh.
