Of course there's nothing wrong with being shy. However, as well and good as one's determination might be to "get over" something on one's own, this is not necessarily an option for those people who have chemical imbalances that make them that way. Shyness is a personality trait. Social disorder is a physical impairment. The Paxil commercials are dangerous because one is confused with the other. However, that does not mean Paxil is bad. Some people DO need to take it.

There's no honor in getting over a broken leg without a cast. There's no honor in getting over bronchitis without antibiotics. And so on.

Sakura, I think I concur with the opinion that a second opinion might be a good idea, just in case. Definitely a proper diagnosis should be given to you before you take anything for it, because if your doc doesn't know what the problem is, how can he treat it?

I'm not sure I trust a psychologist more than a psychiatrist, though. If a psychiatrist prescribes unneeded drugs to keep a patient, why wouldn't a psychologist not recommend needed drugs to keep a patient?

Which is not to say I don't trust either. I'm not cynical about doctors at all. I'm sure there is the odd psychiatrist and the odd psychologist that isn't good, but that's why you get a second opinion. If you get a second opinion from somebody, and there is a consensus on what to do, it wouldn't personally worry me at all.

We're pulling for you.
