Books that make me cry...

You know, after participating in the thread that involves CDs that we're listening to, I thought I'd start a discussion about books. I have a lot of books that I love (I'm a bit of a bookworm, to the detriment of other things that I should be doing at the time), but there are 2 books that stand out as my favourite:

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien
and
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

I was thinking about both of them recently, trying to work out why they stand out so much, and I've come across a few reasons:

1. They make me cry. I'm not a very expressive person when it comes to emotions of any sort, I tend to bottle things up. I also don't let myself cry very much, but with both books I can't seem to control it.

2. There is so much more to them than what is on the surface, which seems to allow for multiple readings. Therefore, the subject sticks in my head for a lot longer. And everytime I hear or read something new about them, I have to go back and read them again.

What does everyone else think?
