Reviews and Comments

After co-starring in a critically and commercially successful series of crime dramas for Warner Brothers, Universal signed the so-called Dead End Kids up for their own series of films, called the Little Tough Guys. They weren't very good, mostly because of the rock bottom budget and hack writing, but also because, when the boys are the main stars, they seem to work better in comedies. This was particularly the case with Huntz Hall, who made a fine comic foil to Leo Gorcey in the East Side Kids films (Monogram Studios's own Dead End Kids series).

At any rate, Little Tough Guy, the first in the Little Tough Guys series, is one of the better entries in that series. Even so, it meanders terribly before finally arriving at a more serviceable final sequence.
