Is it coincidence, or is there a Beauty And The Beast reference in there? (A reference to a strong and tall dark handsome brute.)

Goosey: LOL! Ok, yes, that's absolutely a reference to the play. Groucho even mentions Eugene O'Neill, the author of the play, by name, in a joke about the way the characters speak their thoughts: "If I were Eugene O'Neill, I could tell you what I really think of you two." That joke flew over my head when I watched that movie last. I bet almost nobody gets it these days.

Goosey: No, but it's possible the Marx Brothers were making the same reference I was. I took both the title and idea for this comic from the 1933 film "Strange Interlude," in which we hear the characters narrating their own thoughts in between spoken lines of dialogue. Animal Crackers was made in 1930, but the Strange Interlude film was an adaptation of a 1928 stage play, which was hugely popular at the time.

I don't remember the context of the Marx Brothers joke, but if there was any narration of internal thoughts going on in the scene, it was almost certainly a reference to that play.

The title isn't, by any chance, a Marx Brothers reference? From Animal Crackers? "Pardon me while I have a strange interlude . . ."

10K: Aack! You're right, that was supposed to be a thought bubble. I'll fix it when I can.

Did Sinbad actually say "I think I'll do her the honor of kissing her" out loud?
