I think in the case of POA, it all boils down to whether or not you can properly visualize the problem in 3-D - associating both halves of the "donut" properly, in this case. I normally suck at these games - I find myself constantly checking the boards for clues - but I'm pretty good at visualizing things in 3-D. (Which is pretty funny for someone with one good eye...) So the power conduits and the sandstone caverns didn't give me as much of a headache as they did some people. I could map both of them out easily. But that's just because I could picture them in my head.
