You are completely right. I was restricting it to actors currently working, because if I included McQueen, I'd have to include Poitier, Cagney, Wayne, and others.

But they didn't call McQueen the "King of Cool" for nothing.

I'm not surprised that you weren't impressed by McQueen in Papillon. I saw that movie recently, and while he was pretty cool in the beginning, he was insane, humiliated, and basically broken by the end. Bullitt, The Getaway, The Towering Inferno, and other McQueen movies do a much better job at showing off his Cool.
