Today is a great day to be an American.

For today, we were brutally reminded that we are the greatest nation in the world. We were made painfully aware that we were the shining beacon of freedom and hope; that we were the glorious nation of the world. Yes, today is a great day to be an American.

Envy, greed, and hatred against the United States of America and what it stands for prompted an evil act today. Terrorists attempted to frighten the nation and the world by striking at our nation -- in our eyes and in their eyes, we are a world leader. We are a great nation, and they tried to destroy us. They tried to make us afraid, to make us feel terror, to make us weak. They did anything but.

By attacking and killing the workers at the Pentagon, by attacking and killing the workers at the World Trade Center, these people have managed to unite a nation, to unite a world. Thousands were killed. Millions are now working together. These cowardly attacks were meant to divide us; they have only served to unite us.

As I walked along the streets of New York City, I saw complete strangers banding together to help. Dozens of firefighters, police officers, and medical officers, rushed to the scene to see what they could do. There was no looting. They're turning away doctors and blood donors from certain hospitals because too many people are coming forward to help. The mayor of the city told the nation that they are turning away volunteers because too many people came forward to help. Too many people came forward to help. Too many people came forward to help. Today is a great day to be an American.
