I've been doing a lot of reading about the art of listening, and what a difficult skill it is. A lot of people don't bother really listening to someone, all they're doing is waiting for a break in the conversation so they can put their own comments in. It sounds like Amanda was a good listener as well as a good partner.
But part of that stems from the regard a person can have for you. If you, and your feelings, are important to them, they will make more of an effort(hopefully) to listen to you.
One thing I have discovered, is that there are a lot of people who are REALLY bad at listening to others. I know one family where they don't listen to each other at all, they all talk loudly and don't let each other finish sentences. It's like a competition to see who can get the most attention. In fact, I think I've come across a lot of people who are like that.
I know I have difficulty expressing myself honestly, because I feel I have nothing important to say, or that what I do say isn't worth listening to, but I'm trying to get over that.
I don't know if this is really helpful or not, but I'm listening MM.
