Doritos tortilla chips have a new flavor. Yeah, yeah, when do they NOT have a new flavor. :) But the new flavor, and some of you have probably tried it, is "Four Cheese". It's a very good flavor; I've had two bags to date (they're fairly scarce here).

They're also falsly advertised...but in an odd way.

The first time I had these chips, there was one of those random contest/promotions going on, so the usual info blurb on the back of the package describing how great the chips are and what zesty flavors the consumer could expect was replaced by a football thingie. So, after finishing the bag, I read the ingredients list. What I found there surprised me, and left me wondering.

Now, I have my second bag, with the standard info blurb in place.

Frito-Lay promises the consumer will find Four Cheese Doritos to be "Loaded with Cheddar, Monterey Jack, American, and Parmesan cheeses!".

The reality is that the flavoring stuff on these chips contains (we're just going to assume there's real cheese in the things for the sake of argument): cheddar, monterey jack, American, parmesan...SWISS, and colby.

SIX cheeses! Six cheeses in Four Cheese Doritos!

One has to wonder why Frito-Lay would want to conceal from the rabid snack-eating population the fact that they've crammed six cheeses into these chips. You'd think the label "Six Cheese!" would sell even more chips than "Four Cheese!".

But, oh well. *munch* Mmm, cheesy.
