The torture was in not being able to get free from the mast. Just as you cannot be freed from the office you have been appointed to. As for the bagpipes, if you can do anything at all on them you're better than I am, and comparing you to Odysseus was a compliment meant to say that I thought you would carry through even when the rest of us have expired. But of course it would be fun to watch you writhe around trying to break your bonds and escape only to be devoured.
