There are a number of advantages to working in your parents' business. I found out by working in my father's store, that I did not want to spend my life working in a store. On the other hand, you might be a natural for your parents' business and you might even wind up as boss of an established business. Stranger things have happened.

Work, any kind of work, is an educational experience. I worked in restaurants, a bowling alley, grocery stores, clothing stores, a bakery, a dairy, a sporting goods store, a print shop, two factories and as a painter. If I didn't learn anything else, I found some things I didn't want to do, but I learned something useful in every one of them.

With all of that work experience, I wound up being a teacher, which tells you that the one thing I never learned was economics.
