Monster Arena Question (regarding elements)

Hey,

I am playing Monster Arena for the first time, and something confuses me slightly. I DID read the instructions, but either I missed this part or it wasn't there.

I want to know what the strategy is for setting up attackers etc. based on their element. The instructions DID say that if you have +4 Fire Attack that that will help you when hitting FIRE monsters, which didn't make a lot of sense to me, but...

My 3 characters are Air, Fire, and Earth. If I am fighting say... Water, Earth, and Air, who should attack whom and why?
