MR..Finished..but still missing something... posted by chasen on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at 10:51:42:
> I was hoping to hear from you commie bat, because besides Gremlin (who, I still think is Sam in disguise), you seem to know the most about this game. Unfortunately, your hints didn't do me any good because I have been over every inch of level 8,9 and 10 and somehow I am still missing something. I really am at the end (not just the game but my rope) and just want to know what I am doing wrong. Can some understanding soul please let me know why I can't find those pools when everyone else seems too.
You're not the first person to whom I've given the advice of completely exploring a level, in order to find stuff they know they've missed.
You're also not the first person to come back with "I already did". If you haven't made it to those pools, let me assure you that, in fact, no you didn't.
Level 10 is very confusing, with all its teleporters and semi-secret areas and areas blocked off by really strong opponents. You have to be very careful (and patient) to actually visit every square on the level. I never mapped Level 10, and it took me a while to figure out why I had never made it to a certain swimming area. I don't remember if it's the same one you can't seem to get to, but it sounds like it.
If you're truly at a loss, cast a map spell on Level 10, print the map, and mark off all the squares on it as you visit them. Also note where each of the teleporters sends you. Might be simpler than creating your own map on quad paper (or *gasp* semi-log paper). As soon as you find those pools, you'll realize that Sam (and Gremlinn) was rather clever in hiding them in plain view. You'd never have found them by accident.
^v^:)^v^ F"by the end, I could find those pools in the dark, but by then there was no lifeguard so I had to cling to a semi-log to keep from drowning"B
