Thank you for all your help so far, but I still can't seem to wing this key-thing.

I have explored the shack - I have clicked on each option more than once (especially the one I believe you are referring to in your hint). The options it gives me are:
Examine the shack.
Cut the padlock with the wire clippers.
Hit the shack with the guard's sword.
Climb in the window.

I have also gone north to the well, thinking it might be there, but I cannot explore the well anymore since I cut the rope. The options there are:
Look down the well.
Jump down the well.

Be a little more graphic this time if you can. It is driving me half-mad this thing. Oh, and any subtle hints on the torch??
