I was thinking of Pole Position, but Dave already mentioned it, and the most experience I have with a racing game is Super Mario Kart(not 64, not Super Circuit), where there's no qualifying lap, so you start in back.

Heh. In SMK, you can play the 50cc cup races 'til you're blue in the face, but it doesn't unlock anything. Finishing with gold on the Mushroom, Flower, and Star Cups in the 100cc races, however, unlocks the Special Cup, and permits racing on those tracks in the Match Race and Time Trial. Finishing that cup with Gold unlocks the 150cc class. In this case, it's not too bad because you lack only 5 tracks out of 20 at the start, and only one is not a sequel to a previous track.

And I thought the problem was that the translators didn't know English well enough. If he does know it sufficiently, he can figure out that "All your base are belong to us" would be better expressed "Your base is ours." or "The entirety of your base belongs to us." or something to that effect. He would know that "r" and "l" are NOT interchangeable. Stuff like that.
