Just be warned, your game concept will take a lot of time to code. I would guess that there are about a dozen game proposals that Sam has seen that haven't gone anywhere past coding one or two locations.

There are basically three things you've got to do well.

The first one is to come up with a game concept/outline/flowchart: you know what is supposed to happen at each location (regardless if the location file actually does represent a physical location) and how the game most likely will be played out.

The second thing is to be able to program what happens at each location, keeping in mind several states the main character could be in. For instance, if significanly different things could happen if the character has spoken to someone or not, has one item or not, and has thrown a switch or not, there could be eight different things that could occur.

The third thing is an ability to write well. I've rewritten several description box texts multiple times until I was happy with the text.

Things like "You walk west on Hill Road to a rock formation." changed to "West, along windy Hill Road you go. The road follows the hills, then begins a gradual descent as it winds through a flatter area. You come around a bend in the road and can see [deleted] just up ahead; around the next rock formation you can see [deleted]."
