Gold is stable thanks to a couple expensive items that I've hocked (thanks to the pools), so clinic prices are a pittance. Light is the only thing I'm concerned with right now, so I occasionaly have to leave/enter Perrin to pick up a Bright Stone or two. Most other items don't really help, though it would be nice if I could find one of those multi-use wands lying around...

You should probably be aware of just how many HP you're going to need for this little quest of yours. I've been thinking aboot just how staggering a project you've undertaken, and there are other things you should know.

First Bat The Second had 2006 HP and he had to heal once against Murkon alone. That's not counting all the other monsters he had to kill on the way. First Bat The Second was also a spellcaster and could cast AC-increasing spells to avoid paralysis. I don't think there's armour available to give you high enough AC to resist paralysis on a regular basis, though an Assassin would likely be there by the time he accumulated the ridiculous HP level required to go from Perinn to Murkon.

Paralysis of a single character is most frustrating, as I can tell you from personal experience. One ambush and you're back where you started, minus the cost of curing paralysis. Paralysis will get more expensive than the Items of Specialness you can carry at high levels, especially since you'll want to lug around things like Salves of Emanation and still have room for keys, wands and such like. Remember that your non-spellcaster will have to be at level a million or so, just to get a look at Murkon.

There's also a way to get to and from the level 4 pools without killing two of the eight monsters that guard them. It doesn't involve running, but it does involve some clever maneuvering. The experience of killing groups of monsters will serve you well deeper in the dungeon, where you'll need to have a flawless combat technique.

Good luck.
