Well, another couple of days and I have taken your advice:
> I suggest going to Assassin as soon as possible.
I think all the reasons to do this were already said... but the key I think is the AC. I may have been able to get fairly deep with a knight, but I don't think I could've survived the lowest levels.
So I changed class. Then I figured why not and popped back between knight and assassin another 2 times just to max out my resistance. (Which incidentaly for Human is 10 on each.) One thing i learned from this is that it is possible to switch to assassin as early as level 9 (maybe even earlier) if you budget your extra points. Getting to level nine is not to bad (with 400+ HP in the bank), so it wasn't too time consuming.
Well, with my return to assassin (and my final class change for this game) I worked my way back up to a decent level and went for the Gatekeeper's key. Lucked out and got it on my 4th try.
My philosophy about this is that I am better off experience-wise fighting just above my level. Why?
Speed is everything to me. The faster I level up and get speed the lower in the dungeon I can go. Also, fighting at a dungeon level where I can kill everything somewhat easily leaves me kind of stranded. I find it boring to have to work my way back to Perrin. So I prefer just to be killed. ( As I mentioned earlier, money is NOT an issue, and I really don't expect it to be for quite a while.)
I stopped in at Kaliti, just to check out their merchandise (and sell off some items for the extra dough) but then went immediately back to Perrin.
That's the Perrin issue and the one-character issue, so what about Magic?
Not so bad so far. Every time out is a suicide mission so healing isn't a problem. I so miss being able to cast a Home spell, especially after leveling up. Still buying light items though.
I've got two questions:
1) Since Sam adjusted the maximum natural speed to 10, doesn't that effect how many monsters one character can kill? In my previous game, each of my front 3 could demolish a monster group, but with a max natural of 10 is it even possible to hit 9 monsters? (5 you can hit 2, 7 hits 3, etc... that means speed of 19 would be required to hit 9 monsters... (assuming two speed per every additional monster) is it possible to have equipment that would give you plus 9 speed?
2) Do lower cities get slightly better equipment in their shops?
Cheers!
