I think that when a worker is redundant, it means that his company has acquired new offices or taken over another company, and said company has people who do the exact same job as our poor little worker. Usually, it's not cost effective to have two people doing the same thing in the same part of a company, so one of the workers will be RIF, canned, fired, laid-off...

Here's hoping that you won't be given the pink slip, wintermute.
