I know someone who used to live with Inuit way up
very North, on Hudson's Bay. The women would go
fishing, which involved going out on the ice and
cutting a hole to put the net or line into the
water. As they sat out on the ice, periodically
they would WARM up their hands by putting them
into the water.

Imagine a climate where the water underneath the
ice you just cut out is warmer than the air. And
it must be significantly warmer, considering that
the water must evaporate after they take their
hands out, which would make their hands even colder.
