I haven't read "Martian Chronicles", so I can't help. I can tell you that "The Silver Locusts" is a full novel. It also has an very moving scene set on Earth after the great war has destroyed everything. There is one house left standing and it is fully autonomous and going about its daily business, with robots cleaning and preparing food, but there are no humans left.
