The accents post got me thinking about something else that I do.
I have a habit of impersonating the accents and vocal inflections of people I am around. Sometimes I do it subconsciously. When we went to New England for vacation this Christmas, I was constantly surrounded by the New England accent. I found myself saying certain words the same way New Englanders did, even a week or two after we returned. My son's name was one of the words that got affected by this strange verbal chameleonization. Another example of this was when I was in college. We went out for dinner to Pizza Hut, and our waiter was a foreigner, and spoke with an accent. I think he might have been Iranian. Anyway, when it came time to order our drinks, I said, in an almost perfect imitation of the poor guy's accent, "I want MOUNTAIN DEW!" He probably thought I was ridiculing him. I felt terrible, and I still get teased about that.
I also sometimes do it consciously, when I'm mocking someone or teasing them. These are both things that aren't very nice and I shouldn't do them. The mocking always goes on behind the person in question's back, and someday I'm probably going to get in trouble for this. The teasing I always do in front of said person, so I get in trouble right away. I know I shouldn't do this, but it's just too much fun.
