CD Cover Back Title Directions

I'm in the "I Think" mode today...

I just noticed that one of my CDs, Freak Power's "Drive-Thru Booty", has the title on the back the wrong way. (It reads upwards, so you have to tilt your head to the left to read it properly.) The reason why the direction of this text is downwards (tilt your head to the right to read it), is pretty logical: When the CD (cover) lies face-up on a table or in a CD holder/stack/shelf/whatever, the text should be upright. It's the same with books.

What I don't understand, is how the designer making the CD cover can make that mistake. Here you have the option of placing the text either one way, or the complete opposite way. As a designer, you *have* to think that the choice of direction matters somehow, don't you? It's like deciding whether you should place the heading of an article the normal way or upside down.
