From past experience with shirts for an online community, you should expect to sell around two-thirds of the number of shirts your reader poll indicates you'd sell. (That is, instead of selling 224 shirts, you'll probably be able to sell 150, if you're lucky.)

Also, try to get a firm deadline for orders. You don't want to keep pushing back the deadline. But because you're promoting an actual product and not an event, you can probably afford to purchase more shirts than you can initially sell in the original order.
