Hehee. Thought I'd share an amusing anecdote...
I was sitting around in my room yesterday getting ready to go see "1776" when there's a knocck on my door... startled, I jump a bit, then open it, to see hordes of people (well, five or so) from our campus Christian fellowship standing there. "Here," they say, "a free gift for you." They hand me a little paper bag and run away before I can protest.
Well, my first reaction is a mixed one... what kind of conversion plan have they come up with this time? But I'm also thinking "Ooh... presents," so I open the bag...
Inside is a New Testament (which is lovely, but I needed the old one for my biblical religions class,) a video marked only with the word "Thirsty?" (no, thank you,) a "Plastic Magic Spring Toy" (translate: cheap slinky,) some other book I haven't looked at yet, and a CD entitled "No Lies," a compilation of some Christian music.
Now, I have nothing against Christian music... I even own some Jars of Clay and Newsboys... but sometimes it scares me. Darien and I break open this CD and pop it in, and he says he's particularly interested in the song called "The Devil is Bad," so we skip up to that one... let me tell you, I have never heard a funnier song. How they expect to influence people with lyrics like "You are the devil and the devil is bad," in swing rhythm, repeated indefinitely... well, four times, anyway... completely escapes me.
I certainly don't mean to offend anyone... that is not at all my purpose. I just wonder how I'm supposed to take all this seriously when the songs just crack me up entirely. Anyway, it was a funny thing and I thought I'd share, what with this talk about Christian music and such.
