Most of the disaster films of the 1970s were, in fact, disasters, but this tense adventure about a small group of people trapped aboard a sinking passenger ship is quite good, sticking rigidly with the disaster flick formula but using it to its advantage. Gene Hackman leads the star-studded cast as one of the few people who seem to want to do something to save themselves.
