Director Tobe Hooper and producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall teamed up in 1982 and made the classic modern ghost movie, Poltergeist. A family moves into a house and strange supernatural things begin to occur, starting with the odd, culminating in the horrific. The characters and setting are easy to relate to, depicting middle class America with a minute attention to detail. The pacing is flawless. A landmark in horror films, Poltergeist is both fantastic and frightening.
