Police Story, the first in a confusingly named series of Jackie Chan films (there were no less than three movies named Police Story 4, with or without some kind of subtitle), has a surprisingly solid story. Normally, the fun of Jackie Chan movies is to marvel at his lightning-fast fight scenes and spectacular stunts, all of which he performs himself, and laugh at his unpretentious, self-effacing humor. Police Story has both of these, but the spotlight is on the story. Chan runs into trouble when he's assigned to protect a key witness who is able to testify against the leader of a crime ring. There are some comic misunderstandings, and Chan loses the witness, but then things take a grave turn when Jackie is framed for murder. This movie should be a lot of fun for Chan fans.
