Reviews and Comments

Second and best in the Benji series, For the Love of Benji has the dog involved in a plot of international intrigue in Athens. Though it sounds over the top, it's actually more convincing than the simple kidnapping plot in the first film. Most of the movie contains little dialogue and simply follows Benji around the city, making friends and fleeing from enemies, as he tries to survive in an unfamiliar place. This movie enchanted me as a child and, unlike some childhood pleasures, continues to engage me as an adult. More so than the original, Benji remains a smart but realistic dog, not a superhero with a human-like mind. He's a regular down-on-his-luck everydog, and that's part of his charm.
