Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

A cult favorite, and it's not hard to see why. Matthew Broderick shines as Ferris Bueller, exhibiting more of the finely tuned comic talent he displayed in the previous year's Ladyhawke. As in that film, Broderick speaks comic monologues, not to God this time, but to the viewers. It is genuinely funny to see Bueller struggling so hard to find words to express his frustration at his companions' fears and apprehensions, but finding no other recourse but to turn to the camera and express them calmly to us. The high school teacher caricatures are other scenes to watch for.
