This may be the best "pure" swords-and-sorcery film ever made, which, sadly, isn't saying much...what few have been made are, for the most part, unstomachable. At any rate, Ladyhawke is a wonderful work of characterization. Correctly, the film concentrates more on the characters than sorcery. Matthew Broderick is perfect, spewing hysterical yet eloquent soliloquies, and Michelle Pfeiffer plays the title character to a tee, in the first of her half human, half beast roles that seem to be a trend with her of late. Unfortunately, the film drags in many spots; had the pace been picked up a bit, it would have been even better. Nevertheless, it's essential viewing for fantasy buffs.
