The point being argued by *myself* is that there are, in fact, perfectly valid reasons for people to oppose such research. If one doesn't believe that ends justify means, or one believes that there are instances where no end can justify a mean, then one had a perfectly good reason to oppose the research. Furthermore, dismissing anybody with "I don't think there really IS much of a reason to think such-and-such" or "what you think is pretty 'silly'" does little to advance or mediate discussion towards any sort of meaningful conclusion.
