Heh! That is almost exactly what happens to me, every. Single. Time. Not kidding, every time, and it's so precise it makes me crazy.
I don't have an ice dispenser in the particular freezer I've got in our Florida home. I had one in Michigan for quite a few years, so I know what you mean. Hoo. I hate that.
Anyway, for our freezer down in our current house, there's just an ice maker in the freezer section, in the top door, that empties into a big plastic container. All you have to do is reach up into the container and pull out a handful of ice cubes, put 'em into your cup. Easy enough, right? Oho, you ignorant fool... (Not you, that other guy next to you.)
EVERY TIME, one, and only one ice cube drops from my fistful of ice cubes. Every time, and it drives me up the wall, so much it's probably not normal, but whatever. At least we have a garbage disposal, so I get to kill the incompetent cube. Mwahahahah!!
