Now? Okay...

It is a matter of historical record that Nazi stormtroopers were trained to be incredibly obedient. One of their standard tests was to order a trooper to pull the pin out of a grenade and balance the grenade on his helmet; if he didn't comply, he was out.

The story goes that a group of Allied observers were invited to a secret meeting in a castle somewhere in Germany to see the discipline of the stormtroopers.

"Our troopers vill do anything zey are ordered to do," declared their host, a high-ranking officer. "Vith such discipline, zere is no vay ve can lose."

One of the observers expressed disbelief about how disciplined the troopers really were, so the officer turned to the nearest trooper and ordered him to jump out of the nearest window. He did, and fell to his death far below.

"And in case you think zat vas a fluke, I vill show you again. You! Jump out ze vindow!"

Another trooper jumped to his death.

One of the observers turned to one of the remaining troopers and asked, "If you were given the order, would you jump out the window as well?"

"Certainly," replied the trooper.

The observer was curious. "How is it that you can just throw away your life like that?"

"You call *zis* a *life*?"
