"and it won't let me go forward in time" - that was the bit of important detail we were missing.
Using the scalpel to jimmy open that first entrance was the first thing you needed to do.
The second thing involves bringing some CLEAN organic matter back to the physics profs. The game won't let you go forward because it complains that your sample's too dirty, right?
You may have noticed that the water pressure's a bit too high to wash it safely. But you can fix that easily now!
