The float ring and winter coat are past the cat.

There is ONE OTHER creature in this entire game big and fuzzy enough to go up against the cat. He will be indebted to you if you feed him a snack (though he may seem indifferent initially).

After you've fed him, he'll come return the favor, but only when you are in immediate danger. And even then, you need to buy him time to get there. :)
