In order to prevent this kind of incident in the future, I've lowered my expectations considerably, and expect to be happily married to a slug by this time next year. Slugs don't use bathmats.

I didn't know slugs had bad olfactory sensors. That's a doggone shame.

I'm feeling kinda once-bitten-twice-shy right now, so I'll be off the market for a little while. Although I do add "boy" at the end of most nicknames, and you already HAVE that -- I guess that makes you a frontrunner when I'm up and running again.
