That was beautiful, Wolfspirit. I mean that.
Here we do not have what you would call autumn. There are no deciduous trees in New Zealand except those which have been imported. All our native trees are green all year round. I have seen "autumn" trees but never a whole forest of them. The photos and film I have seen of northern autumn is always incredible to me. I remember reading in Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley" about how he asked (I think) a Vermont woman whether autumn became commonplace after living there all her life, and she said something like it was always a surprise and a miracle every year. I can't remember the exact quote but it was wonderful.

Of course, this doesn't mean our trees are the *same* all year round, there is as much variation from one season and one place to the next as anywhere. But I would like to see a multicoloured forest one day.

I see some wonderful sunrises at this time of year.
