MV/MR Mechanics questions

This isn't really a hint request, just curiosity about the workings of the games, but the Games Board seemed like the best place for it. Anyway: When you gain a level in Murkon's Refuge, the Hit/Spell point increases are based on Vitality/Wisdom/IQ, right? But does the game measure the appropriate stats before or after the character gains the level? And in Murkon's Vengeance, if you poison an adventurer, or damage a regenerating character, and then run away, do they continue to gain or lose Hits as you walk around the dungeon?
