I agree with the nine yards of machine gun bullets.

I also agree with the three loose ropes, but I've never been able to figure out why a rope is called a sheet.

But 23 skiddo came from a New Years party in 1923 where some drunk welcomed in 1924 by yelling "23 skiddo." And that's the truth, dagnabit.

From the same period we get "trucking." That was a cool way of walking with the arms pulled up so that the elbows stuck out behind. Then you lean back and extend each foot well out front with each step as you sway back and forth. Snapping the fingers in time with your pace is optional as is whatever cool facial expression you can muster.
Check out the Andrew Sisters singing "A Tisket a Tasket, My Little Yellow Basket." Trucking is in there somewhere. Well, I have to truck on out of here while you try to figure out how much of this is just a product of...
