Yes, I guess gas prices, currently about $2 a gallon, are lower than in some countries. The US us a big country and we often drive hundreds of miles a day. Maybe the volume of sales keeps the price in check somewhat. But the current price is higher than it has ever been.

Americans are not very good at arithmetic. We don't seem to understand that if people drive thirsty vehicles that use twice as much gas as they should, the cost of driving doubles. It also adds to air pollution.

I have never understood why people who use a vehicle for a car often buy a truck-like monster that drinks gasoline. Some of them have 4-wheel drive that is never used. I could understand why someone who pulls a heavy trailer, or has a big family, or lives at the end of a long muddy road, would need such a vehicle, but a high percentage of American drivers could get by with a small 4-cylinder car.

Isn't a gallon of petrol in England about 20% more than a gallon of gas in the US?
