dulcimer

I thought I had posted on here about the dulcimer that we got for Christmas, but a search didn't turn up anything.

Almost all dulcimers are hand made. You can get a kit, but if there is a dulcimer factory somewhere, I don't know about it. I'm talking about the Apalatchian dulcimer. I understand there is an instrument called a hammered dulcimer, probably native to Europe, but I don't think I ever saw one.

The one we have was made from a sassafras tree, which makes it very rare, because sassafras doesn't grow very big. It's usually considered a shrub. Yes, that is where we get the flavor for sassafras tea and root beer.

Anyway, the wood finishes up beautifully if you can find a tree big enough to make something.

I still can't play it, but I haven't had time to really work on it. I can pick out "Love Me Tender" but it sounds better when Elvis does it.

So many projects, so little time.
Howard
